Your public IP address β the one websites and services see when you connect to the internet.
When you set up DNSAFE on your router or network, you register your public IP address so DNSAFE knows which network to protect. Every time your device makes a DNS request, DNSAFE checks it against your policy.
Your IP is assigned by your internet service provider and is shared by all devices on your home network. If you're on a mobile connection, your IP may be different.
Most home connections use a dynamic IP that changes when your router reboots or periodically. DNSAFE handles this automatically β when your IP changes, just visit your account dashboard and update your registered IP, or enable the DNSAFE roaming client for automatic updates.
Your public IP is visible to every website and service you visit β it's how traffic is routed back to you. Using DNSAFE's DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH) resolver encrypts your DNS queries so your ISP can't see which domains you look up. Run a DNS leak test to confirm your queries are protected.
